SPRINTCARS & STREET STOCKS TO ENTERTAIN THIS SATURDAY NIGHT AT REDLINE

This Saturday night the 28th of January Mount Buninyong roars to the sound of big time Sprintcars again when the ‘Thunder on the Mount’ event is run with close to twenty racers already entered for the 360ci Sprintcars.

Entries on the nomination list include Domain Ramsey, Paul & Chris Solomon, Wayne Logue, South Australian Rory Button, Brad Foster, Mark Weaver and from Sydney Troy Little.

Little is a strong contender in the Sydney Speedway Open Sprintcar point score and has got to be one of the tips for the night whilst Chris Solomon has feature wins under his belt already this season whilst local representation also includes Ken Hutchins from Bacchus Marsh.

The Redline Raceway is where the action is at and the hard work officials have put into the race track dished up a beauty a fortnight ago and the Sprintcars will love going super fast around the little clay way.

Street Stocks are the backbone of the Redline Club and never cease to support the venue and will have Jason Degoldi, Rick Sankey, Les & Karen Ferguson, Swan Hill’s Andrew Carmichael, Anthony Missen, Daryl Atkinson, & Mark Purdie at the pointy end of the racing with more than twenty five cars already committed to the event.

Formula V8s round out the program with Steve Forte, Russell Matthews, Graeme Nugent and Lindsay Fox amongst the field.

Entry prices are Adults $25, Invalid and Aged Pensioners $20, Kids between 8 & 16 years old $5 each and a family with two adults and four kids upto 16 years age is $60 on a family ticket.

LOCAL DRIVER JAMES WREN WINS PACKED SHOW AT REDLINE

Redline Raceway on Saturday night entertained a healthy crowd with a great mixture of Sedan and Open Wheel action with local district racer James Wren taking a win in Wingless Sprint and club member Mick Dann winning the Street Stocks in fine style amongst the winners list.

In Wingless Sprint racing for the night a healthy field of twenty racers attended and spread across six heats for three qualifying races each Jake Smith, Mick Parry, Paul Robilliard, Andrew Chivell, Adam Sealey and Damian Meade took wins.

With South Australian Sealey and Wren beginning on the front row after posting the most consistent heat race results things soon turned upside when Gabe Goode on lap two rode twelve feet high in the sky as he launched over Meade, Sean McKeever and Heath Hunter in a scary crash that thankfully had the end result of all drivers walking away from their race cars in good health.

The race resumed and at the end of fifteen laps Wren was the winner from Sealey, Jason Langdon who was the star of the final having been sent to the rear for causing a stoppage and stormed through to third place again whilst Parry and Robilliard finished fourth and fifth.

In Street Stocks Justin Sadler and Mick Dann entertained the crowd and in Dann’s case that was done whilst starting every heat last as a late inclusion to the field. Heats were won by Sadler, Dann, Jason Degoldi and Robert Tinworth before Sadler and Dann took second wins in the final heats.

In a shortened final due to time restrictions the Stockies then ran with a full field of sixteen with victory to Dann over Sadler, Degoldi then locals Karen Ferguson and Dale Bromley.

Compact Speedcars in a small field were entertaining with a spectacular crash between Mike Griffiths and Keith Astrella caught on film by the track photographer. Astrella had earlier won the first heat of the evening  whilst it was in the second heat that the big crash occurred. Brad Day won that heat with Herb Hecker taking the win in the final heat and then the final when he beat Day and Warren Gravina.

The Victorian Mini Sprints also were part of the program with small numbers as a last minute inclusion to the program to cover the loss of another scheduled division. Owen Milton won the first heat before electrical issues plagued him for the rest of the evening with Stuart Ferguson winning the next two heats and then the final ahead of Amy Phillips and Jason Lynn.

The Standard Saloons appeared with strong numbers thanks to drivers from Rosedale and Alexandra clubs and were very entertaining however left the venue disappointed when time restraints meant they were unable to race a feature event. Heat racing was won by Ian Rosemeier who won all three heats he was drawn in, Kelly McDerrmott, Dale Morrison & Ben Farquhar.

The Formula V8 Sedans feature race was won by Scott Purdie with Steve Forte and Russ Matthews filling the podium placings.

Redline Raceway will once again thrill fans on January the 28th with 360ci Sprintcars the headline act for their Thunder on the Mount Series supported by Street Stocks, Junior Sedans and Formula V8s.

OPEN WHEELS, FORDS Vs HOLDENS AND V8s ALL AT REDLINE THIS SATURDAY NIGHT

This past week Mount Buninyong has been host to the nation’s best cyclists as they strive to win the right to wear the countries green and gold stripes on their jersey sleeves for the coming international season. The cyclists at a very fast pace roar up and down and around the mountain to become number one just as 60 race car drivers will do this Saturday night at the Redline Raceway facility in the same area.

Redline Raceway will provide a double dose of Open Wheel action as the Compact Speedcars return for a club show in the lead up to their coming series rounds and national championship at the same venue later in the season whilst the Wingless Sprints also return to action with a strong local representation.

In Compact racing watch for Brad Day, Troy Woolley who also runs Sprintcars, Herb Hecker who rolled at Redline last season and is back on track and last weekend’s second place finisher at Wangaratta Matt Astrella to be in the thick of the action this Saturday.

The V6 Wingless Sprints have been busy during the Christmas and New Year season and despite numerous race events have still got a healthy twenty car field nominated. Damian Meade, Adam Sealey from South Australia, James Wren, Mick Parry, Sean McKeever and Paul Robilliard will be the ones to watch with wren the local boy keen to show the field his back wheels.

Sedan racing is always a big part of Redline and the Street Stocks once again headline the Sedan racing with Justin Sadler and Jason Degoldi sure to give the local guys Colin Forbes, Robert Tinworth and Les Ferguson a tough time, however watch for his wife Karen Ferguson to be right in their amongst the front runners all night.

Standard Saloon fields have been low in recent meetings however a call out through ‘face book’ has attracted a good field of sixteen cars with plenty coming from Rosedale and Alexandra Speedway clubs. Victorian Champion David Cull has entered whilst Jacob Vuillerman, Shane Stewart and Wayne Nelson are amongst visitors that will be front runners with locals Mick Hume and Allan Young amongst them, the action will be fantastic.

Rounding out the program is the local Formula V8 category steadily increasing in numbers with Scott Purdie, Russ Matthews, Lindsey Fox, Graeme Nugent and the returning Steve Forte sure to the Chettleborough boys some hurry up.

Entry prices are Adults $20, Invalid and Aged Pensioners $15, Kids between 8 & 16 years old $5 each and a family with two adults and four kids upto 16 years age is $50 on a family ticket.
